How to take them

Go to the following area for domain level backups to do a manual one:

  • Domains
  • pick a domain
  • Manage hosting
  • Websites and Domains tab
  • Backup Manager (*)
  • Backup
  • Select Domain Configuration and Content
  • Click OK

To set them up automatically (Scheduled Backup Settings) go to:

  • Star/asterix above
  • Scheduled Backup Settings
  • Activate this backup task
  • Set the time you want it to run
  • Set "Maximum number of backups in repository" to 10
  • Untick "Suspend domain until backup task is completed"
  • Click OK

To do server level domain backups, go to:

  • Home Page of Plesk
  • Sever Management - Tools & Settings
  • Tools & Resources
  • Backup Manager

Use the same settings as the domain level backups.

For this server level backup there are also different Backup Settings under Tools & Resources.

Plesk 9 Manual Backup

Current Backup Tasks do not finish

In SSH do ps aux | grep backup and then kill the processes running from the start date, normally the eighth/column value below:

root 19665 0.0 0.6 70024 25332 ? S Jul13

July 13th in this case.

Then do /opt/psa/admin/sbin/backupmng enable

Plesk 8 Backup and Restore

Convert & restore backups from v.8/9 to v.10

Domain restore fails

If you have created a domain backup and when attempting to restore receive an error along the lines of"Unable to restore as mail accounts, databases and ftp user still exist" create a backup on Virtuozzo to ensure no data loss. You will need to remove all content except the domain itself then restore the backup.

SSH access is under Domain > Control Panel > Websites and Domains tab > Show advanced operations > SSH/Shell access

Limit Disk Space usage

To prevent backup processes from consuming all available disk space, edit /opt/psa/admin/share/pmmcli/pmmcli-rc

Linux location

/var/lib/psa/dumps/

Verify backup integrity
